    theradishauthor:

    Just tell me something secret
    While we’re river-washing
Ill keep it to the grave
    While this water’s gushing
I’m not one to coddle words,
    I won’t change what I’ve heard
    Darling you’re a stone
    And I’m the morning bird

  7. I told you I felt like weeping
But had no reason in keeping
    Thinking of all that’s overwhelming
In the end it’s a fatal strength
In the end it’s a fatal strength that keeps us going
    Those living for another

    Arrival, arrival,
    I’ve learned
That I’ll get what I’ve asked for
But I’ll not fit the mold
For we don’t know the shape of things until they’re made
    It’s a thankless job
    When gratitude can’t be had
    Because you’ve missed the mark
    And ambivalence becomes a verb
And in the end it’s fatal strength that keeps us going
A strength so fatal it keeps us going
A strength so fatal we couldn’t make the choice to let go
Because we’re so insistent were not even living
    We forget about loving
    But we’re reaching

If you haven’t been…go!! $3 suggested DONATION, yes that means Celebrate Brooklyn pulls out all the stops, technically, for free! And it’s such a great evening!! Atmosphere, FOOD! And music.

Music moves people of all cultures, in a way that doesn’t seem to happen with other animals. Nobody really understands why listening to music — which, unlike sex or food, has no intrinsic value — can trigger such profoundly rewarding experiences. Salimpoor and other neuroscientists are trying…

Shots of Awe -We Have a Responsibility to Awe - Jason Silva

Ever ponder the miracle of life? Or perhaps wonder about the evolution of intelligence? In Shots of Awe, Jason Silva chases his inspiration addiction as he explores these topics and more. Every week we’ll look at the complex systems of society, technology and human existence and discusses the truth and beauty of science in a form of existential jazz…

One of the ways we elicit wonder is by scrambling the self temporarily so that the world can seep in. - The Wondering Brain

“One of the problems with human beings is mental habit. Once we create a comfort zone we rarely step outside of that comfort zone. The consequence of this is a phenomenon called Hedonic Adaptation - Over stimulation to the same kind of thing, the same kind of stimuli again and again and again - renders said stimuli invisible. Your brain has already mapped it in your own head and you no longer need to be engaged by it. We have eyes that see not, ears that hear not, and hearts that neither feel or understand.”

  12. So now, take for example ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council. It’s corporate funded, the Koch brothers and those guys. It’s an organization which designs legislation for states, for state legislators. And they’ve got plenty of clout, so they can get a lot of it through. Now they have a new program, which sounds very pretty on the surface. It’s designed to increase “critical thinking.” And the way you increase critical thinking is by having “balanced education.” “Balanced education” means that if you teach kids something about the climate, you also have to teach them climate change denial. It’s like teaching evolution science, but also creation science, so that you have “critical thinking.

All of this is a way of turning the population into a bunch of imbeciles. That’s really serious. I mean, it’s life and death at this point, not just making society worse.
